Psychological Testing

Getting started!

1. Ask your primary care doctor or nurse practitioner to refer you to PsyConOps for psychological testing.
     a.  Your provider can ask to "rule out" various conditions such as:
Adult Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), an Anxiety Disorder, Bipolar Disorder, Mild Cognitive Impairment, Post-traumatic Stress Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Binge Eating Disorder... the referral can be used to rule out or rule in almost any psychological condition.
  • The referral should be faxed to our office using this number: 575-652-4383.
  • In most cases we can get the testing scheduled within a couple of weeks.

2. You can self-refer for psychological testing,  but first ask your insurance provider whether you are covered for a self-initiated request for psychological testing.
  • WHEN YOU CALL YOUR INSURANCE, ASK THE FOLLOWING:
  1. Is the cost of psychological testing covered?
  2. Is there a deductible?
  3. What portion will be reimbursed?
  4. Is a referral needed from a primary care physician or can you refer yourself?
  5. Is pre-authorization required?
Once you've completed these steps, you can go to the final step.
3.  If you are are in psychotherapy with a counselor, they can also send a referral that requests psychological testing. They must ask a question they want answered,  like: "Does my patient have bipolar disorder?"
4. Final Step: Call our office and schedule your appointment (575) 652-3654.

  • Social Anxiety
  • Avoidant Personality

"My medicine isn't working."

Are you untreatable? Of course not!

There are different reasons why your medicine won't work like:
  • The dose is too high or too low
  • The type of medicine is wrong for your condition
  • You've taken it so long, the effect has "pooped out" (Yes, poop out is a medical term, check it out here).
  • You haven't given the medicine enough time to work
  • You metabolize medicines too fast or too slow
  • Side effects are outweighing the benefits of the medication
  • A pill doesn't teach you new skills like how to make new friends, how to communicate with your spouse/partner
    • and more...

Trouble Socializing: Some adults call to find out if they have Adult Autism Spectrum Disorder (formerly Asperger's syndrome) because they have difficulty understanding social cues, are acutely upset by changes to their routine, engage in repetitive behaviors like picking at the skin or nails, pacing and rocking. Sometimes the condition is not caught in school because the person is so high functioning, but it doesn't mean they don't suffer.
There are many times when psychological testing can be helpful. Many of our patients say it's fun to learn about themselves and why they do things. We are here to help you understand your personality and cognitive, developmental and interpersonal style and to offer strategies to help you succeed.
