Psychotherapy: Because a pill doesn't ask about your dreams or worries.
As a prescribing psychologist, I'm able to prescribe antidepressants and other psychiatric medications but my preference is to help you work through symptoms of anxiety and depression through research-supported talk therapy.
I specialize in a cognitive-behavioral treatment called, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, a treatment based on scientifically supported strategies proven to help people live happier, healthier lives.
What is Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)?
* Please Note: I don't have any current appointments available for persons diagnosed with bipolar or psychotic disorders. These conditions are highly treatable, but they often require extra labs, monitoring and long-term treatment.
Here are some local resources for those in crisis or with other concerns:
Crisis Assistance Listening Line: (575) 646-2255 or (866) 314-6841
Las Cruces Cares Warm Line -7 days per week, 5pm to 9pm - (575) 527-9114 or (575) 527-9030 or (575) 527-7926

What is Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)?
- ACT instills change by paying attention to how we see our problems. We learn to embrace our thoughts and feelings instead of fighting or feeling guilty for having them. The treatment is based on getting closer to rather than avoiding your worries so you can see them more clearly and find solutions that feel right at the gut level.
- Anxiety, depression, OCD, substance use disorders, and many other medical conditions have been shown to benefit from ACT and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT).
- Learn more about ACT and MBCT through these websites.
- A positive relationship with your therapist
- Trust (open and honest disclosure)
- Nonjudgmental support
- Willingness to look closely at the thoughts and behaviors that keep you stuck in cycles of unhappiness
- Commitment to doing homework to reinforce the concepts you learn in therapy
