Dr. Elaine Orabona Foster
Board Certified Prescribing Psychologist
I have spent most of my professional life trying to help people during moments when the stakes are high and paperwork matters.
During my 25 years as an. Air Force psychologist, I completed evaluations for service members facing serious career, life and medical decisions. Some of my work involved treating Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom (OEF/OIF) fighters; performing security clearances, and composing narratives for boards. I learned that a good evaluation is not a formality. Going beyond the “templates” to really capture a person’s experience and their symptoms is more than filling out a checklist. A full description can affect a person’s future, their’ benefits, their work… peace of mind and relationships.
That is why I care so much about getting the details right.
Today, I bring my history in military medicine to veterans, security professionals, and others who need clear, thoughtful psychological evaluations. Whether they are working through a VA disability claim, applying for a Level III Security Guard credential, or trying to understand what kind of help their family needs, I know how important it is to feel that someone is paying attention to your history.
And speaking of history, moving with a family on a military schedule caused my youngest to lose the continuity we needed to detect Autism Spectrum Disorder. I’ve learned a lot about how to address that conundrum of supporting individuals who aren’t getting the benefits they deserve.
Beyond my professional board certifications (ABPP), my work is informed by my own lived experience as a parent of a neurodiverse adult. This dual perspective allows me to offer more than just clinical guidance—it allows for a partnership rooted in genuine empathy and practical solutions for the lifelong journey.
